THE SUN-FOLK SOCIETY
is a naturist club based in Hertfordshire.
It was founded in 1931 and was one of the first Societies with membership
open to the public to practice complete nudity.
They first used a small site in North London and then rented a
small part of Spielplatz. On 1st December 1931, a 5-acre site adjacent to
Spielplatz became available and with funds provided by the Committee out of their personal moneys the site at “The Spinney”, near St. Albans, Hertfordshire was purchased.
The ownership of the free-hold land is vested in the Trustees who
hold it on behalf of the Society.
its first year, 60 members enrolled at Sun-Folk – two years later, the
membership stood at 250, thanks largely to the publicity and articles in
the magazine “Gymnos”. These
articles did much at the time to further the cause of British naturism.
Society owns 5 acres of woodland and over the years, this has become the
centre for a range of naturist activities which the members have created
for themselves turning part of the woodland into a

over a large area. The
membership comprises of couples, families and single people.
from relaxing, the members voluntarily undertake a variety of
maintenance and building work, for example, our new toilet block has
been built and fitted out by members. In
this way, the Club enjoys the expertise from members in many professions
and trades and is also able to keep its costs down and the subscription
to a reasonable level.

what he or she is best able to do and all efforts are appreciated!
In addition, there are occasional social events and
sports such as miniten and volleyball are popular.
