Day 10, Wednesday 26th January 2005 |
This morning large numbers of police and security moved in with contractors to begin fencing part of the route. They were met by very brave local people. |
They are fencing the ploughed field south of the tree house on the B4032 between Soulbury and Linslade between Dollar Farm and Valley Farm. Apparently the fences are very small. |
Police tried to bully three local women at the treehouse into moving. They were absolute heroines and didn't move. |
Local people have been "trespassing" onto the open area where they are trying to fence and are being escorted / carried off by security guards. Nobody has been arrested. |

When I arrived on site, a huge number of police were at the protest site this morning (blue flashing lights on), intimidating the three women there - in vain. Wandering over the road, I found a huge police and security operation (in the ploughed field opposite the treehouse). I wandered in the gate and down the track at the side of the field. Assuming I was press, they asked me to leave. I was eventually carried out of the field by four burly security guards - a novel experience. |
Hearing a chainsaw, I found an alternative entrance. They were not pleased and I was again asked to leave - but first, I was given an assurance that no trees were being felled. |
| By 5pm work had stopped - the two fencing workers getting into a white van labelled "Fencing Specialists" and "01225 350516". | ||||||||||||
All a bit odd really - a rather small fence, put up by two men in a day, requiring a backup force of about three dozen security and police people. |
